xin_482030529085921891515A story arc by Lenina.

A biosafety level four lab is breached by animal rights activists. Everyone inside with the exception of a handful of protected microbiologists get infected by a new pathogen with high morbidity and a high mortality rate. SARS is a common cold compared to this virus.

During the mission, you have to rescue microbiologist who give you important clues about the new virus. Clues include taxonomy as well as a detailed description of the effects.

This is not a “defeat all” mish, and you can theoretically complete it by eliminating a handful of enemies holding the biologists as hostage. However, as the virus attacks the brain, expect the infected to be very hostile.

Recently infected

This patient is in an early stage of the disease, where gastroenteritis is the main syndrome. Risk of dehydration due to massive diarrhea and vomiting. The patient will very likely deteriorate and develop severe neurological symptoms and possible death.

This patient has survived the virus, however at a tremendous cost. Virus has altered the chemicals in the nerve system to an extreme degree, triggering borderline personality disorder and anorexia nervosa. The starvation has severely weakened the patient, and can eventually cause paralysis and death.

Contagious anorexic

This patient is suffering a severe brain infection. The virus has destroyed rational thinking and hunger feelings, thus causing anorexia nervosa. The patient is highly contagious, and can infect you with anorexia nervosa by coughing or vomiting.

Approximately one third of the patients with this condition die (either directly from the virus or from starvation), and the rest will put a huge burden on the psychiatry.
